Our commitment to you and our community remains constant. We are here for you and we will get through this together 🏡
In light of the recent news, we wanted to send well wishes to you and your loved ones during this challenging time. Our heart goes out to those who have been impacted — either directly or indirectly — by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In times of uncertainty, we often see the power of local communities as we band together to support the well-beings of neighbors, friends, colleagues and loved ones. With COVID-19 on our minds, many of us may be wondering what we can do to help. Thankfully, there are numerous ways we can safely and responsibly give back to our community!
While still following the guidelines outlined by the CDC, here are a few things you can do to continue to pay it forward:
Order Pickup or Delivery from Your Favorite Restaurant or Coffee Shop: While a number of businesses may be closed right now, many are still offering curbside pickup or delivery! Support your favorite neighborhood hotspot by ordering a cup of coffee in the morning or takeout for dinner.
Purchase Gift Cards for the Future: If you don’t feel comfortable ordering delivery or are stocked up on groceries at the moment, consider purchasing gift cards to be used for a future meal! Gift cards are also available at many local retail shops, breweries and other businesses.
Continue to Shop Local: While many businesses have closed their doors temporarily for health and safety reasons, many still offer online shopping for goods and services, which can help with the financial strain. And don’t forget to think outside the box! Have you been wanting to redecorate a room in your home? Consider purchasing artwork from local artists who may also be impacted by recent closures.
Consider Paying for Cancelled Services: Many services like nail or hair appointments, house cleanings, etc. are considered a nonessential business and may not be open to the public. However, service workers oftentimes only get paid when they work. If you can afford it, consider paying for these services even if you cancel — a little bit can go a long way!
Help Your Neighbors: Extend a helping hand to elderly neighbors or those who are high risk. If you’re making a trip to the grocery store already, consider asking if there are any items you can pick up and leave at their doorstep. Or, since many of us are spending more time at home these days, consider helping a neighbor with yard work in your free time!
If NEXTDOOR.COM is available in your neighborhood, you could also sign up on their “Help Map”, which allows you to indicate that you’re able to help those in need in your area.
Provide Items to a Local Food Bank: In our communities, there may be individuals and families that cannot afford extra supplies during this time. For those with means, consider donating supplies or goods to local shelters and food pantries. Contact an organization of your preference for a list of current needs.
Donate Blood: Health officials say the pandemic could lead to a shortage of blood supply. If you’re healthy and able, consider donating blood at a local hospital or clinic.
Call Elderly Family Members, Friends or Neighbors: Pick up the phone to talk to older community members who are being encouraged to self-isolate. This can brighten someone’s day and can have a positive impact on their mental health!
Say Thank You: Last, but certainly not least, thank the doctors, nurses, medical staff and health officials who are working tirelessly to help control the spread of COVID-19. Don’t forget to also extend your gratitude to the sanitation crews, grocery store employees, delivery carriers and everyone else who continues to work hard for us during this critical time in our country.
These are just a few ways you can help support our local community! Together, let’s remember to do our part and take care of one another.
